Macroeconomist by training, applied scientist by trade.
I'm a Senior Economist and Machine Learning Engineer on the Economics team at Instacart. My work has spanned Pricing & Affordability and partnering with the Caper Carts team — Instacart's AI-powered Smart Cart — on experimentation, incentive optimization, and frameworks for sharper decision-making. Before this role I served as a Senior Data Scientist at Instacart.
I hold a PhD in Economics from the University of Minnesota. My doctoral research focused on misallocation in housing and financial markets. During graduate school I was a research assistant at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis and at the Minnesota Population Center.
What I think about
Platforms & multi-sided marketplaces
The economics of platforms and the network effects inherent in multi-sided marketplaces — pricing, affordability, and how participants on different sides shape one another's incentives.
Misallocation in housing & financial markets
How frictions in housing and credit markets push capital and labor away from their most productive uses, and what aggregate consequences follow.
